What is Platelet-Rich Fibrin?

 A second generation PRP

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is very similar to the more well-known PRP ‘Vampire Facial’. Like PRP, PRF utilizes cellular rejuvenation factors from the patient’s own blood. Platelet-rich treatments are well known in treating pain, healing injuries, dental work, and several cosmetic benefits.

What makes PRF different? PRF contains higher levels of fibrin (a blood protein) and white blood cells. The higher levels of fibrin allow for the other growth factors to be released more gradually over time – meaning longer lasting results!

How It Works

Client specific solutions combined in one micro injecting device.

PRF works very similarly to PRP. Your blood is collected and its components (growth factors, platelets, stem cells, and fibrin) are separated in a process called centrifugation. White blood cells are also collected as they contain Platelet Derived Growth Factor (PDGF). To separate fibrin, the patient’s blood is spun in the centrifuge at a lower G Force than PRP.

Injecting a high concentration of these components into the treatment area allows for platelets to bind to the fibrin protein structure. Cellular regeneration is accelerated, encouraging skin rejuvenation and new collagen formation. This increases the skin’s thickness that is usually lost with age. In addition, it can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and sagging skin. Your skin’s elasticity, tone, hydration, and texture will noticeably improve with progressive results.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a good candidate for PRF?

If you’ve noticed fine lines, wrinkles, loss of skin volume, or an overall dull appearance in your skin and you’re not ready to go under the knife, you’re a good candidate for PRF.

What can I expect?

The doctor will first draw approximately 20 cc of the patient’s blood. The blood will be centrifuged to separate the plasma containing the platelets, stem cells, fibrin, and growth factors. After numbing the area to be treated, the solution will be injected.

Small swellings are expected in the injected area which will disappear within 3 hours. Within a few weeks of treatment, an overall improvement in skin hydration, texture, and tone will be seen. New collagen and blood vessels will begin to grow after 3-6 weeks. Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as volume correction happens over 3-6 months. The effects can last 1-2 years depending on the individual.

For optimal results, multiple sessions are recommended. If you are looking for a quick volume fix and sustained results, you can also choose to combine PRF with fillers.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is about 24 hours. The healing properties present in the PRF solution promotes fast recovery of the small puncture wounds made by the needle.
